An open window in the museum of the Church of Our Lady of the Rocks frames the waters and mountains of Boka Kotorska. Held in Kotor, Montenegro, on 7–10 April 2019, the International Conference “Adriatic Biodiversity Protection – AdriBioPro2019” brought together more than 100 participants from 16 countries, with 92 presentations across nine themes. Organised within MonteAqua, it connected scientific research with policy discussions on biodiversity conservation, marine pollution, sustainable resource use and the role of aquariums.
As MonteAqua Project Manager and Chair of the conference Organising Committee, I helped create a setting for scientific exchange and regional cooperation. The programme extended beyond the conference rooms through the “Hidden Beauty of the Sea” photography exhibition and a Boka Kotorska Bay cruise, connecting discussions about conservation with the landscapes and communities at their heart.
